The Last Refuge by GlendonMellow The Last Refuge by GlendonMellow
The last refuge for trilobites, hunkered down near some black sulfurous smokers near the ocean floor. About to be discovered by a submersible descendant of Alvin.

I think this one is probably my favorite one of your paintings, but then I love them all!

Great painting. I love the grey billowing lifeless smoke above and the colourful, scurrying vibrance of life below. You can almost feel the rippling warmth of the vents. :D

It makes me wish I was down there.
The blue light works beautifully, by the way. :)

Thanks very much! I used a lot of Rembrandt Indanthrene Blue on that one.

I find any type of water scene very relaxing, especially if it is under water. I think it's the blue. XD

I really like this one. Could easily be the movie poster - "The Last Refuge: Revenge of the Trilobites!" a new film by Glendon Mellow...

Thanks Bond!

Director Michael Bay: The trilobites attack the surface with explosions.

Director Sofia Coppola: Deep-sea submersible divers lounge around in beautiful designer wetsuits, listening to New Order and Siouszie and the Banshees. In the last five minutes, they find trilobites to the sounds of The Cure.

Thanks, babbletrish! I wanted to get that creatures-alone-in-the-dark feel.

It achieves that mood beautifully. It reminds me of that one weird/sad/amazing scene in, I think, "Planet Earth" where they pan over the deep sea vent ecosystem that went dead after some kind of natural disaster or other. An entire small world rose and fell without any humans knowing about it until long after the fact. Woah...

Every day there's so many lives and dramas unfolding we never see. The movie Microcosmos reminds me of that sentiment.

And thank you.
